About Clash of Crowns

Clash of Crowns is a free online kingdom-building strategy game where you grow a small frontier village into a fortified stronghold. Gather Gold and Ember, construct economic buildings like Mines, Wells, and Vaults, and raise defensive structures such as Bastions and Crown Ballistas to protect everything you’ve built. Once your economy and defenses are in place, training an army and researching unit upgrades opens the door to raiding outposts and testing your forces against real threats.

Every building and unit ties back into your Keep level, gating stronger defenses and troops behind steady progression rather than letting you rush to the strongest options immediately. Joining a Clan and taking your army into PvE raids like Skyreach rounds out the game with a genuine combat layer on top of its village-building foundation.

Resources and Economy Buildings

Gold and Ember are your two core resources, each tracked at the top of the screen with a capacity bar showing how close you are to your storage limit. Economy buildings like the Mine, Well, Vault, and Store generate and hold these resources, with each one costing gold to construct and eventually hitting a limit reached cap tied to your Keep level. Collecting resources regularly and reinvesting them into new economy buildings keeps your income climbing steadily rather than stalling out early.

Defenses and Fortifications

The Fortify Your Kingdom menu lists defensive structures such as the Thrower, Snare Patch, Ward Spire, Bastion, Crown Ballista, and Storm Beacon, each unlocked at a specific Keep level shown directly on its card. Early defenses cap out quickly, pushing you to upgrade your Keep before adding more, while stronger options like the Crown Ballista and Storm Beacon only become available once your kingdom has grown significantly. Balancing defensive coverage against your economy buildings is key to protecting your progress from raids.

Army and Research

The Army & Research menu lets you queue troops like Shieldhand, Longbow, and Ram Crew, each showing health, damage, and housing cost, with total housing capacity tracked in the corner. The Research tab lets you spend gold and ember to level up each unit type over time, while the Abilities and Tactics tabs add further customization to how your forces perform in combat. Locked units like Skykite and heroes like Bastion Marshal require research at higher Keep levels before they become available to train.

Raids and Clans

Beyond home-base building, the Clans menu connects you with other players, while PvE encounters like the Skyreach outpost send your trained army into a timed raid against an enemy base. A Destruction percentage and countdown timer track how much of the enemy stronghold your Shieldhand and Longbow units have torn down before the raid ends, giving every attack a clear win condition to chase.

Tips for Growing Your Kingdom

  • Upgrade your Keep regularly rather than maxing out every building at your current level, since many structures cap out until you do.
  • Balance Research spending between multiple unit types rather than focusing on just one, since a mixed army handles raids more reliably.
  • Keep collecting resources often to avoid hitting your Gold and Ember capacity caps and wasting income.
  • Check unit housing costs before queuing a large army, since your War Camp’s housing capacity limits how many troops you can field at once.
